Choosing a breast pump

February 12, 2022

I attended the Breast Pumps for Working Moms webinar with Allison. She was so great at answering each of our specific questions. She helped me choose the right breast pump after listening to my individual pumping goals. I have watched so many of Allison’s pump reviews. She really knows her breast pumps and which ones will work best for different situations. I was so confused about which pump to go with after watching so many great reviews online. Getting to ask Allison about the pumps I was considering was so helpful in making my decision. Allison is so friendly and I really value her opinion. I’m so happy I found her YouTube channel and community! Thank you Allison!

Take this class before having a baby!

August 12, 2024

This class and personal help is invaluable. I really wish someone would have told me to take this prior to having a baby. It would have made breast feeding and going back to work much easier and less stressful. The amount of information is great and I think this class should be given to nurses at the hospitals so mammas can go home with a better idea of what they are doing than what is offered currently at many hospitals. Realizing that the pump can be the main issue and the flanges they give standard with pumps are generally too big for most is something I wish I would have known earlier. This plus so many other helpful tips was amazing for me and I appreciate the help.

Complete 180° from previous experience

August 1, 2024

My nursing and pumping experience with my first baby was a total disaster. I was completely in the dark and entirely unprepared, and I thought I simply wasn’t physically capable of making enough milk. However, this course has not only given me the tools to pump effectively (and efficiently! Hello 20 minute max session length), but it has also clued me into the simple biological truth of supply-and-demand milk supply. I’m a data nerd, and I thought that simply tracking numbers last time would be enough. But the techniques I’ve learned in this course have made all of the difference. I’m currently two months into my pumping journey with 50 ounces of frozen “discretionary“ milk that baby simply couldn’t even eat after also nursing. A huge thanks to new little life!

Clear and concise!

January 29, 2024

I really appreciated the clear lessons and stepwise approach to topics that can be confusing and fraught with emotion and complexity! My first breastfeeding journey was complicated by my son developing hyperbilirubinemia and being a bit of a sluggish feeder. I got caught in the formula supplementation cycle and struggled to maintain my supply. I’m so grateful for the knowledge and support of the New Little Life team as I prepare for the upcoming birth of my second child!

Glad I will have help for baby number 2

I struggled with supply for baby number 1 and felt that joining late didn’t help much but I am so thankful I will still be in this program when I am ready for baby number 2 to try to troubleshoot things early.

Pumping for Working Moms Program was a lifesaver

August 22, 2023

The Pumping for Working Moms program was a life saver in navigating breastfeeding for my first child. The content was thorough, engaging, and included a variety of supplementary modules to troubleshoot any issue a pumping mom might come across. The highlight of the program for me was access to Allison through the community and office hours. While I had hoped to nurse, my delivery came with surprises that made my baby have to start feeding on the bottle and we never managed to get him to nurse. From day one, Allison’s content and expertise was essential in navigating pumping right off the bat. I had many questions and multiple urgent issues along the way, and Allison was very fast to answer my questions and address my concerns. I highly recommend this program to anyone looking at incorporating pumping into their feeding journey.

Targeted feedback and expertise in the program was invaluable

August 22, 2023

I had a terrible pumping experience with my first baby (bad pump, wrong flange sizes, terrible schedule) that nearly made me want to avoid pumping/nursing the second time around. This program was a life saver for my mental health and success in meeting my goals. The targeted feedback and expertise was invaluable for someone like me who was trying to balance life with a toddler and pumping for my newborn while maintaining a busy surgical practice. The regularly zoom calls were amazing for me because I could ask all my questions and even learn from other people through questions I didn’t even know to ask! This was a worthwhile investment.

Breast Pump Queen

November 1, 2022

I would’ve been lost without Allison and likely wouldn’t have made it this far breastfeeding and going back to work. There aren’t enough words to express my appreciation and how grateful I am for her! As an “older” first time mom, I felt completely lost stepping into my breastfeeding journey. I’ve been with Allison’s program since I was 7 months pregnant and it provided me with so much knowledge and confidence before our little guy arrived. She has been with me every step of the way from choosing pumps to dealing with the ups and downs of feeding and fears going back to work, all while supporting me as I live and work in Europe. Between the one on one support and working moms community, I am incredibly thankful for the support system she has created.

I can’t recommend her YouTube and Instagram pages enough, as well. I have literally watched her for HOURS. Her knowledge and passion for breast pumps and helping working moms is evident and infectious.

Thanks, Allison!

A helpful resource!

Concise webinar to help start my pumping journey! I appreciated the Q&A after the information was presented to answer any follow-up questions. And it was free! A good way to see what is offered by New Little Life without knowing what you need as a first time mom 🙂

Awesome Working Moms Program

May 5, 2022

I am so thankful that I found Allison! I found Allison by her YouTube videos on pumps and began following her on social media. Allison is so knowledgeable about pumps, pumping, and returning to work. The best part of the working moms program for me has been having Allison just a message away to ask questions about any pumping or nursing topic. Allison has helped me with pumping schedules, travel planning, pump settings, and more! I highly recommend the working moms program for anyone who is looking for personalized support to make pumping and the transition back to work easier with less stress.

Confident Second Time Mom

April 5, 2022

After my pumping journey while working did not go as planned with my first child, I have been determined to educate myself about pumping overall this pregnancy so I can gain the confidence to do this as long as I can this round. With the help of Allison and her YouTube videos AND her Breast Pumps for Working Moms webinar, I feel confident in my breast pump decisions. Allisons knowledge is unmatched in the pumping world and she is always so kind, friendly, and helpful with any question I have had.

NICU Mama

March 16, 2022

After my son ended up in the NICU I felt so overwhelmed about pumping. I regretted only taking courses on breastfeeding and not really diving into pumping. I had no idea pumping was going to become such a big part of my life. I went on Youtube to see what quick information I could find and thats when I stumbled upon Allison! She made pumping feel less intimating with her kind demeanor but more importantly her videos were clear and informative. I recommend her and her courses to all of my friends and co workers!

Great value and so informative

March 16, 2022

Allison is so knowledgable about pumps, which not all LCs are, and her youtubes and instagram have helped me so much on my pumping journey. Her live class was just as good, and she even gave individualized help when people had specific questions. The class was a great value, and if you aren’t sure if you are ready to take the plunge with say, individual more costly LC sessions on pumping help, this would be a great initial step for general questions.

Great Details

March 16, 2022

I love the isolated topics because I know the questions we have can open so many more discussions and questions. It also helps target specific topics and the areas of concern we want to address. Allison is very well versed and has all the supplies to show during her talks, which is an added bonus. I love the level of confidence she instills in us, making our choices easier especially in a field with so much confusion.

“I was SO unprepared when I decided I wanted to breastfeed my daughter. I came from a formula-feeding family and had no one to get that anecdotal experience from. I took some bad advice from someone who shouldn’t be a lactation counselor that ultimately discouraged me and left me feeling less than. I’ve found so much help and empowerment in your videos and now I know how to be prepared next time around whenever I have another baby. Thank you SO much, Allison! ❤️”

“When I was pregnant with my first, I didn’t know where to start with breastfeeding. I wanted to know EVERYTHING but Google was information overload and not helpful. Then I found Allison’s course. It was just what I needed! The course covered the basics and had lots of information, but it was focused in one spot so I didn’t have to search a bunch a different sources. I took the course at my own pace and referred back to it again and again! The most important thing to me was feeling like I could trust Allison as a lactation expert, and also a fellow mom. Because of Allison’s help I’ve felt successful in breastfeeding both of my babies!”

Birth Doula Client

June 22, 2018

I just had my second child in my first non medicated natural birth and I don’t think I’d have survived if I hadn’t had Allison there. She’s so amazing and knew just what I needed and when I needed it to keep on going. Her soft reminders and gentle touches helped me stay on top of my pain and present in the moment. She was also amazing with my 5 year old who was present for baby’s birth. She helped him understand what was happening at that moment and reassured him everything was just as it should be.

Weeks leading up to labor Allison really took the time to get to know me and my family, my wants for the birth plan and my strategies we planned to use. So when the time came she remembered my affirmations and whispered them in my hardest moments.

In the days after my birth she came and encapsulated my placenta. She taught my little dude even more and involved him which was so cool! She helped me make a placenta print as well that turned out BEAUTIFULLY and the cord keepsake she made into “love” is probably my favorite.

All around Allison was caring and empathetic, strong and kind, personable and lovely. If I had any desire for more kids I would be saving up to fly her back to me for my next birth ??

Military Mom

June 2, 2018

I came to Allison late in my pregnancy. Having just moved to a new installation (and being dual military — I made this move without my husband), I didn’t know anyone and I was desperately seeking support for my first pregnancy and beyond. I found Allison on doula match. To my delight she had an opening and then I was blessed to meet her in person. We went over every single detail of how. Envisioned my birth and life post partum. She answered so many questions, Day or night, and always provided me the most up to date and useful resources for me to read. She never presumed to know everything — she just knew how to guide me in the right direction. I had a natural birth plan. I studied hypnobirthing. Everything was going great until I hit 36 weeks and 6 days. PREECLAMPSIA came on suddenly, strong, and without warning. Allison jumped into action. Calming me over the phone and empowering me, reminding me that I could do this. Needless to say; my birth didn’t go as planned at all. however I truly believe that without allison present and supporting me, I might have had a c-section. You see I was in labor for almost 25 grueling hours. half of that was epidural free. allison was steadfast — present — mindful — and talking me through contractions. She provided support to my husband — she was his someone to lean on so that he could be strong for me. All of this culminated in a vaginal birth and every step of the way allison reminded me of my options, my rights, and talked me through each intervention. If you’re looking for a professional, knowledgeable, loving, kindhearted, and selfless doula — choose Allison. Post partum allison came by my home to assist with breastfeeding. 6 months post partum and allison still checks up on us – providing a resource for me to receive donor breastmilk as my supply has dipped significantly. I was blessed to have allison as part of my birth story. You will be too.

Birth Doula Service

March 6, 2018

I had a fantiastic experience with Allison. My husband and I choose to hire her later in my pregnancy. I had several reasons for considering hiring a doula prior on meeting Allison. I wanted to have a natural brith in a hospital setting while being able to labor at home as long as possible. I also wanted to have an extra support person for the birth because my husband and I were also likely going to need to be attending to our two year old.

Prior to going into labor, Allison met with me and my husband and went over the practical aspects of what we expected. She went over my birth plan and left me with some Spinning Baby DVDs in response to an email I had sent her. My husband and I really appreciated the effort Allison put into getting to know out two year old and into getting him comfortable with her.

The day I went into labor, I texted Allison in the morning, and she answered some questions about amniotic fluid leaks. She checked in with me later in the afternoon which I appreciated. After I was certain I was in labor, I let her know and she at arrived well within the promised time frame. She did a great job of letting my husband and I do our thing until he needed to leave to attend our toddler. She was supportive but unabtrusive. She judged my progress, and we got to the hospital just in time to deliver baby which was a much better experience for me. She also talked my husband and I through some moderate hemmoraging I had which made the whole experience much less frightening than I think it would have been otherwise. And… she remembered snacks!

I’m long winded and have to keep this short. I highly recommend Allison. She knows her stuff. She incredibly fun to work with and makes her clients’ wishes her priority. I’ve since moved, but would hire her again in a heartbeat!

Second Child

March 3, 2018

I had a great experience with Allison. We met before we officially hired her to talk about what we wanted from a doula, since this was our second child. She was flexible and professional with what we needed with our second baby. She messaged me frequently to check in to make sure everything was going smoothly with my pregnancy. When we went to the hospital to get induced she came right when my contractions started to get bad and was a great help to my husband and I, especially since this happened in the middle of the night! I really appreciated Allison’s professionalism, friendship, and help before and during my labor! I would reccommend her to any of my friends interested in haivng a doula and lactation consultant.

Birth en-route!

February 10, 2018

I wish there was a 10-star rating on her because Allison Tolman is an amaizing doula! We met at a USO Baby Shower event on Ft. Sill, OK where we immediately hit it off by talking about the yoga ball covers she makes. I love to sew too and was admiring them! I realized she was the doula recommended to me so I interviewed her and knew she’d be a great fit for our birth team. Before Liam’s birth she helped me with relaxation techniques, lent me her prenatal yoga DVDs, encouraged me in making time to do my Hypnobabies tracks, and gave me genuine support for not only my upcoming birth, but through personal struggles I was having in my life. We became friends and our boys enjoyed playing together too! We were planning to have Liam at the Witchita Falls Birth & Wellness Center, but he ended up being born in my mom’s van outside the hospital. Allison was a blessing to have by my side during Liam’s birth. Her encouragement and support were unmatchable. Her calm demeanor in the midst of an intense, short labor and fast birth made me feel at ease with everything. She didn’t tell me what to do or how to do it but reminded me to trust my body, to remember my Hypnobabies tracks, that my body was meant to do this, that I could relax during/after each contraction, and let my baby come despite the circumstances. After Liam’s birth, I was admitted to the hospital. She made sure my transition was smooth and advocated for my desires of newborn and post-partum care. She created an atmosphere where we were able to have some space to breathe before deciding which medical tests we wanted to be administered or not. She came to our home to follow up with my recovery, offered nursing support/advice, and helped me remember that newborns nurse differently than well-seasoned toddlers. Allison is an exceptional doula! Thank you, Allison for all you did for me! I can’t speak highly enough of you!

Rainbow Baby

After losing a pregnancy and having difficulty becoming pregnant again we were anxious. We had planned to meet with a few doulas but after meeting with Allison, we knew she was who we wanted. She was so great even in the first meeting about reassuring us that our anxieties were normal and that everything would most likely be fine. We met with Allison a few more times during the course of my pregnancy and discussed our birth plan, rebozo, breastfeeding, infant care and postpartum expectations. Allison has so much knowledge and is great at sharing that knowledge in a way that was easy for us to understand.

About a week before my due date, I was diagnosed with preeclampsia. On top of being disappointed that I was being induced, I was also worried because I didn’t really know what to expect. This was 100% the opposite of my all-natural birth plan. I told Allison when I was sent to the birth center for monitoring and she stayed in constant contact via text and phone. Once we decided to proceed with the induction, we let her know. She arrived at the hospital and was calm and upbeat. I may have been a rattled but she never was. I still wanted to try for a natural birth so she helped by gathering resources from the hospital, managing visitors, having me try laboring in different positions and helping me control my breathing. Everything was going really well until the extreme headache combined with labor was just too much for me and was causing my blood pressure to skyrocket. I decided that I should have an epidural. Thanks to Allison’s support, I have never doubted that it was the right decision and I have no regrets about my birth. Allison is amazing because she can and will support you through any birth situation. Nine weeks later, Allison and I still text regularly and she is still supporting me as I figure out being a working mom and breastfeeding/pumping. I will always be grateful to Allison for her support at my birth and after.

FTM with husband delpoyed

February 2, 2017

Before meeting Allison, I wasn’t really sure what a Doula even did… but boy am I glad we crossed paths. I couldn’t imagine what my both would have been like without her. She is not only a very dear friend to me she was there for me when my husband couldn’t be. (He was on a plane coming home from deployment.)

Allison is very kind, outgoing, and was supportive of my decisions. Some things I absolutely loved about having her as my Doula are

1) Any time I had a worry during my pregnancy she was more than willing to find an article to give me relief.

2) When I went into labor she was willing to come to my house and labor there with me until it was time to go to the hospital.

3) She is so easy to talk to, Professional, but also personal in the best ways, I felt so completely comfortable around her, and she’s very knowledgeable.

4) During labor she motivated, encouraged, and cheered me on.

5) After my delivery she came over to help answer some of my questions and concerns I was having about breast feeding.

I could go on and on about how amazing Allison is as a Doula and person in general, but the bottom line is that if it’s possible I will have her at all my deliveries.

Birth Doula Support

June 13, 2016

Allison was very helpful and comforting during my labor. I went into labor 5 weeks early, so we were not quite yet prepared for the hospital! Allison came and sat with me so my husband could go home and pack our hospital bags. She helped to relieve a lot of my labor pains, and helped me stay positive when I wasn’t progressing at all. Allison stayed with me and my husband all night, and was extremely emotionally suppportive when I found out I needed a c-section. With all the craziness of labor, I was so grateful to have had her there!

VBAC goals

May 26, 2016

From the moment I spoke with Allison, I knew she would be a great part of my birth team. She was very supportive with everything I wanted to do and was willing to offer suggestions when I wasn’t sure. When it came time for my daughter to arrive, Allison kept me calm and helped me make decisions when I couldn’t always think clearly. I really wanted to have a VBAC and fought very hard to have one, but in the end I felt it was better to have the c-section because of the limited hospital staff who were comfortable doing a VBAC. Allison supported me throughout my 12 hours of labor and then was there to help with my 2 year-old daughter when I had to go to the OR. She was very patient, kind, and helpful to my whole family during entire process. My husband really appreciated all the help she gave us as well. Overall, even though I didn’t have the birth I had hoped for, it went well. I have Allison to thank for helping me and my family get through the whole process. She is a great doula and a wonderful person who I would recommend to anyone!

Calm Confidence

December 7, 2015

Allison was my doula and was fabulous. She did a great job of keeping in touch with me throughout my pregnancy, but was never pushy or overbearing. She helped me stay calm through a bout of nerves and was reassuringly calm about the whole stressful situation. When it came time to labor, she was at my house within minutes, talking me through different positions, reminding me to eat, encouraging my husband to be as involved as he wanted to be. I really didn’t want to have my water broken, but it got to the point that it was either that or the baby wasn’t coming that day. Allison helped me work through my fears and desires surrounding that and come to a calm and satisfying conclusion. She was invaluable when we got to the hospital and it was wonderful not to have to answer the nurse’s questions about how I was doing, but to just be able to focus on doing instead. As the contractions got harder and harder, she was right there and talked me through the whole thing. It was still the most difficult thing I’ve ever done, but I had support through it and that made such a difference. Allison has a firm, quiet confidence in her chosen profession and she is absolutely the best decision we made with this birth. I would highly, highly recommend her.

Erin

Third Time mom

December 2, 2015

Allison helped me out with the delivery/birth of my third baby. I didn’t use a doula with my previous two children, and now I wish I would have. Allison was able to anticipate ways to help me before I even realized I would need anything. She has a very calming demeanor that comforted me through the stress and discomfort of the delivery. Further more, she is a lactation specialist and her advice and guidance is the reason I have been able to be successful in breast feeding my baby. She’s never been judgemental and I’ve never felt like any of my “silly” questions were a burden for her.

If you’re trying to pick a doula, Allison is the whole package. I would whole-heartedly recommend her to anybody!
